Jennifer and Ron provide remedial massage as part of the therapies offered at Bribie Natural Health. Ron specialises in the area of sports massage. A range of safe stretches and exercises may be demonstrated to maintain flexibility and avoid future injury. Jennifer has diplomas of remedial and oriental massage involving a range of techniques including shiatsu and acupressure along with cross fibre mobilization and structural adjustments in conjunction with massage. Lymphatic drainage is a further service which may relieve to those suffering from lymphodema that often occurs following operations to remove cancerous growths.

Jennifer has three separate health provider registration numbers for massage, acupunture and naturopathy, enabling many clients to receive a better rebate from their fund with certain treatment programs. The clinic offers a unique and complete treatment for muscular aches and pain. All patients are thoroughly assessed prior to therapies to ensure the correct mode of therapies are implemented to treat the problem. When there is tightness of muscles and inflammation the clinicians prefer to use Frequency Specific Microcurrent to relax and soften the tissue prior to massage, as this heightens the effectiveness of remedial therapies a hundred-fold. Niagara vibratory massage is also soothing and stimulatory to lymphatic drainage as well as circulation.

Following deep tissue massage, the treatment is always rounded off with the application of Traumeel cream and the use of bioptron light. Where there is severe pain, Jennifer will often recommend incorporating biomesotherapy, using sterile injectable homeopathics at acupuncture points and or acupuncture.

Lymphatic drainage is of great benefit where there is a stagnation in the lymphatics, and Jennifer is highly experienced and qualified with this procedure, that she has been practicing for many years.

Hyperton-X Kinesiology is muscle testing and incorporates neuro muscular and respiratory controlled streches that can reset the memory of the muscles tone when there is a shortening of the muscle due to injury or repetitive work.  Select  Hyperton-x Kinesiology from the navigation menu bar on the left hand side of the HOME page for more details on this treatment.

Cross Fibre Mobilisation is another name for Bowen therapy, and Jennifer is trained and certified in the technique, which she often incorporates into massage therapy.

Structural Aligning is an important part of the Bribie multimodality clinic's pain treatment program. Jennifer and Ron are trained to assess the patient for misalignment and to provide safe and effective procedures for soft tissue manipulation and stretching techniques as well as neuro muscular techniques where appropriate.

Pain Trigger Points

Trigger Point Therapy Some Mapped Trigger Point Locations on a Back
Do you have trigger points? Check the boxes:
  Muscles are sensitive to pressure
Stiff, tight, spasmic feeling, especially in the neck or lower back
  Headache
Dull, aching, or burning pain in muscles
Pain going down the arm or leg
  Numbness
  Muscle imbalances
  Unpredictable, erratic symptoms
  Heat eases the pain

If you checked these you may have active trigger points. Only a medical professional can provide a diagnosis, but a qualified massage therapist may provide relief of myofascial pain.

Have you ever had a headache, clonus or twitching muscles, after a massage? The massage might have felt great, but most probably your therapist activated trigger points on your body. Jennifer and Ron Weekes aim to avoid this from happening through the use of Frequency Specific Microcurrent Therapy. This painless low frequency is safe and eliminates the risk of soft tissue injury as well as gently reducing trigger points. Select Microcurrent Therapy from the navigation menu

Bribie Natural Health Clinic incorporates SAFE vibrational therapies into massage therapy

The effects of a whole-body vibration program on muscle performance and flexibility in female athletes.

Sports Medicine Laboratory, Department of Health Sciences, University of Rome

"IUSM", Rome, Italy.

OBJECTIVE: This randomized controlled study was designed to investigate the

short-term effects of an 8-wk whole-body vibration protocol on muscle performance and flexibility in female competitive athletes. DESIGN: Twenty-six young volunteer female athletes (ages 21-27 yrs) were randomized to either the vibration group or control group.

The vibration intervention consisted of an 8-wk whole-body vibration 3 times a week employed by standing on a vertical vibration platform. As outcome measures, three performance tests (counter-movement jump, extension strength of lower extremities with an isokinetic horizontal leg press, and a sit-and-reach test for flexibility) were performed initially and after 8 wks.

RESULTS: A total of 24 athletes completed the study properly. In the vibration group (n = 13) whole-body vibration induced significant improvement of bilateral knee extensor strength (P < 0.001), counter-movements jump (P < 0.001), and flexibility (P < 0.001) after 8 wks of training. No significant changes were found for all the outcome measures for the control group (n = 11).

CONCLUSIONS:

Whole-body vibration is a suitable training method to improve knee extension maximal strength, counter-movement jump, and flexibility in a young female

athlete if it is properly designed. Not only do the optimal frequency, amplitude, and g-forces need to be identified but also the level of muscle activation that would benefit more from vibration stimulation. The improvement of flexibility is important not only for performance but also for the prevention of muscle-tendon injury.

Hyperton-X Kinesiology

Hyperton-X is a Kinesiology Method (Muscle Testing) used in assessment and correcton of imbalanced muscles.  By 'clearing'  hypertonic muscles, the person becomes more flexible and relaxed with improved power.  Certain techniques are also used for Pain and Emotional Stress Release, as well as enhancing physical and mental performance levels for improved learning ability, athletic performance, pregnancy gestation and childbirth, disability management plus a number of health issues.

The concept of Hyperton-X was developed by a physical therapist, Frank Mahoney.  His philosophies support the conventional theory that soft tissue trauma through injury or over-use (RSI) can lead to a number of structural imbalances that occur in the posture.  Such imbalances can be recognised by a trained therapist, and many of the presenting problems affect the nervous system, cerebro-spinal fluid flow and meridian energy flow.

A hypertonic muscle can be identified by restricted range of movement, and commonly affects shoulder joints and neck muscles. Correction method is based on Proprioceptor Neuro-Muscular Facilitation - PNF stretching.

Hypertonic Muscle Correction has been shown to have the following beneficial affects:

  • Increase in neuro-muscular communication
  • Resets the proprioceptor mechanisms in the muscle spindles that control flexibility (that may have been traumatised through injury)
  • Improves circulation in both vascular and lymphatic systems
  • Releases inhibiting signals (interferences) from muscle that may may cause a jamming effect in the sensory co-ordination areas of the brain.
  • Improves co-ordination through improved muscle balance and enhanced cross-lateral stimulation in the brain.
  • Releases restricted muscles that affect posture and improves normal flow of CSF fluid.  Note: No spinal adjustments are required.
  • The founder of Hyperton-X also experienced enhanced results when using this program for overcoming allergies and sensitivities, emotional stress issues and other issues that include TMJ syndrome and pain management.

Ron Weekes is an experienced certfied Hyperton-X therapist and has been incorporating the technique into massage therapy following microcurrrent treatment, that supports safe practice with soft tissue manipulation.

Ron Weekes is an experienced musculo-skeletal therapist

Jenifer Weekes is an experienced bodyworks specialist and will aid in the assessment of appropriate treatment programs for all patients.

HiCaps Health Fund Febates cover all remedial massage therapies where available.

Lymphatic MassageLymphatic Massage

What is Lymphatic Drainage?

Lymphatic drainage must not be confused with traditional massage as its functions and principles are totally different.
Unlike other massage techniques, Lymphatic Drainage requires only a very light touch. This is because the lymph is in the body's connective tissue - not in the muscle. As such, Lymphatic Drainage is a very gentle and relaxing, non-intrusive massage.

The technique improves lymph flow through direct action on the lymph vessels and stimulates drainage from the connective tissue.

Watersheds (collection areas) from where
lymph moves towards reservoirs
(the lymph node concentrations.)

But, why move lymph?

When we speak of lymphatic drainage we are talking about the removal of fluid from the soft, connective tissues - thin membranes that separate our bodies cells. Our blood brings oxygen and nutrients to this connective tissue and the cells then absorb what they need. In return, the cells expel waste products into the connective tissue, which is then carried away by lymph.

The lymphatic system is adversely affected by such everyday factors such as stress, chemical overload and illness. These factors can cause the systems functions to deteriorate and generally slow down. This means that the lymph transportation becomes sluggish and the flow into the lymph nodes is impeded. This results in the system's waste removal process becoming less effective, creating a stagnant situation leading to potential health problems. Lymphatic Drainage can overcome this.

There can also be a build up of protein in the connective tissue. Excess protein, like excess waste products, will thicken tissue fibres and significantly retard the uptake of nutrients and removal of waste.

Lymphatic drainage techniques assist the activities within the lymph nodes as well as assisting the passage of lymph through the nodes.
Lymphatic Drainage works on the body in four ways:

  1. It elicits relaxation reflexes through working positively on the autonomous nervous system

  2. Movement of the lymph prevents and breaks down lymphostasis, preventing a build up of institial fluid in the tissue. The lymph carries immunoglobulins - antibodies that help fight infection and disease - around the body. Impeding the free movement of lymph around the body can reduce our ability to stay healthy.

  3. Lymphatic drainage stimulates the nerves and muscles that control the lymph vessels themselves.

  4. The technique promotes the elimination of cellular waste.
Another advantage of this technique is that it can be used to relax the muscles before the client returns to have a remedial massage.

What are the benefits and who can enjoy them ?

The answer is everyone. The application of Lymphatic Drainage range from cosmetic use, sports injuries, migraines and lymphoedemas to that of helping alleviate the suffering associated with sinus, arthritis, whiplash and fluid retention. In particular it is useful for those who need to:

• Relax
• Reduce scarring, especially after an operation
• Stimulate their lymphatic systems
• Find relief from Lymphoedemas
• Overcome sports injuries
• Get help for migraines, M.S., headaches, strokes and trigeminal neuralgia
• Ease the symptoms of arthritis and rheumatism
• Improve post-surgical swelling and prepare for surgery
• Reduce discomfort from skin disorders
• Ease constipation, sinusitis, P.M.S
• Ameliorate the effects of H.I.V and Aids

Lymphatic Drainage is particularly effective before and after a medical operation. Pre-operatively, two or three treatments will cleanse and purify the lymphatic vessels in preparation for the operation. Within a day or two of the operation Lymphatic Drainage can be used to greatly assist in easing pain and discomfort as well as assisting in the reduction of bruising and swelling. The gentle effect of Lymphatic Drainage on the nervous system will also aid in speeding the healing and recovery time of the person.
The technique is also extremely beneficial for numerous other skin conditions, such as acne, allergy-prone skins, sallow complexions, scars and aging skin as well as any condition which oedema occurs. These can include poor liver or kidney functions, diabetes, arthritic conditions and cellulite.

As previously mentioned this is a very different type of massage. However, it is certainly one of the most beneficial and if you have not had a Lymphatic Drainage in the past you should definitely seek one out.
