What  is Sure Touch?
Sure Touch  Visual Mapping System is a unique digital sensing device that assists a trained  healthcare professional in screening for breast cancer, greatly increasing the  chances of early diagnosis of breast cancer in women and men.

Is  it safe to use?
The device  has been cleared by US Food and Drug Administration and has been used since  2005. In just a short period of time Doctors and clinics around the world have  chosen Sure Touch for their patients. Not only is it completely safe from  radiation and pain free, all imaging is done in a relaxed and comfortable  environment. Unlike a mammogram where the breast is squeezed and compressed,  Sure Touch is a simple handheld device that is placed on the breast tissue. The  image is then reflected on a small laptop computer screen in full 3 dimensional  colours. The Sure Touch exam produces a visual map of the breast that, if a  mass is detected, will show its estimated size, shape, hardness and location.

How  does the technology work?
The hand held  Sure Touch sensor is made up of a high resolution array of many small  proprietary, pressure sensitive elements. These elements are an integral part  of the technology that converts the measure of tissue elasticity into an  electronic signal which is digitized and computer analysed.

Why  should a woman get Computerised Breast exam from Breast Imaging Australia?
Currently  women rely on self examination or a similar hand examination by their doctor or  Gynaecologist to identify breast lesions. Computerised Breast Imaging that is  simple to obtain and accurately displayed is beneficial to all women from early  teens to old age. With breast cancer early detection can make the difference  between life and death.

Is  the Sure Touch exam accurate?
A two year  study of Sure Touch funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and its  extraordinary results for identifying and mapping breast lesions has been  documented by the American Journal of Surgery and by the researchers in the  trial.

What’s the difference between a  Mammogram and this Procedure
Sure Touch is pain free, radiation free,  suitable for any age and any breast type or size. Sure Touch also images lymph  nodes and clavicle where cancers originate which a Mammogram cannot.
This system also maps any breast changes from  image to image so as to give you a comprehensive picture for ongoing breast  health over the years.

Can I claim this on my healthcare  fund or Medicare
At the present time no, but this may change  soon. This procedure is the first step in providing an ongoing comprehensive  health analysis of breast health.  This  will change as computerised breast screening becomes more main stream.  What price do you put on your health?
